Job Objective
The Assistant Brewer position’s primary role is to assist in keg washing and racking, packaging, tank and other equipment cleaning, tank transfers, and emptying and filling barrels. This position’s secondary responsibilities include supporting all other aspects of brewery production, including milling, brewing, and transporting wort, as required.

Job Objective
The Assistant Brewer position’s primary role is to assist in keg washing and racking, packaging, tank and other equipment cleaning, tank transfers, and emptying and filling barrels. This position’s secondary responsibilities include supporting all other aspects of brewery production, including milling, brewing, and transporting wort, as required.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Primary Duties:
- Cleaning kegs, tanks, and other miscellaneous equipment.
- Cleaning in place of bright tanks, fermenters, and all applicable equipment.
- Performing or assisting with packaging operations including keg filling and bottling.
- Transferring of beer from fermenters to bright tanks, oak barrels, etc.
- Receiving malt and other raw materials and storing properly.
- Taking daily gravity, pH, temperature, cell counts, and viability readings on all fermentors.
- Help ensure quality of product, in part by tasting raw materials, unfinished product, and final product before it is released to identify for off-flavors or process issues.
- Keeping production areas clean and organized at all times.
- Complete all assigned daily tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Fulfill other production objectives as may be set by management, or other authorized employees.
- Ensure a safe and efficient production by strictly adhering to safety standards.
- Keep accurate records and reports.
- Continue to develop professionally.
Secondary Duties:
- Assisting in maintenance of physical brewery plant.
- Assist in wort production.
- Building the Gunwhale Ales brand through promotional activities (festivals, beer dinners, etc.)
- Giving tours and/or tastings to visitors when needed.
- Other brewery-related tasks that may require assistance.
Essential Skills
- Understanding of cleaning and sanitation requirements in the food and beverage industry.
- Demonstrated passion for beer and brewing
- Organized and accurate record keeping.
- Ability to monitor indicators, gauges, and dials to make sure that equipment is working properly.
- Able to frequently, and safely, lift heavy materials (up to 55 lbs) shoulder high.
- Requires working in a non-temperature controlled environment, handling of hazardous materials including chemicals, hot liquids, high voltage, compressed gases, pressurized vessels, and exposure to complex machinery.
- Ability or willingness to learn to drive a commercial van and/or small box truck.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and loud, noisy, slippery, hot, humid, and cold environments for extended periods of time.
- Ability or willingness to learn safe forklift operation.
Other Requirements (OT/Travel, etc)
- OT may be required.
- Travel may be required to trade shows and beer related events.
- Must be available to work occasional Saturday and Sundays as required.
- 21 years of age, proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license.
