    Jailbreak Brewing Company is seeking a full-time Head Brewer to lead our brewing team in Laurel, Maryland.

    Individual will be responsible for the entire brewing operation and beer portfolio. This individual must have a proven track record of strong leadership skills.

    Jailbreak was created as a freedom of expression and constructed to be a transcendent experience. Since 2013, we’ve continued to artfully layer upon both the beer and the culinary experience to provide a welcoming departure from the monotony of the norm. Our Brewery/Taproom offers a wide range of beer, wine, cider, and specialty spirits in addition to FoodWorks, our full-service kitchen, which boasts artisanal, house-made pub favorites. FoodWorks also features six DRYAGER™ cabinets where we dry age a range of proteins in-house to bring in a new kind of dining experience to our brewery.

    Roles & Responsibilities
    • Leadership of brewing and packaging team
    • Ensure process and production efficiency
    • Ensure department goals, budgets and KPIs are being met
    • Ensure growth & development of team
    • Provide technical guidance and assist with trouble-shooting brewing issues
    • Guide team on adjustments to existing brands
    • Identification of process improvement opportunities to help support future brand plans
    • Oversight of production brewing, cellaring, and conditioning
    • Ensure quality & consistency of existing brands
    • Provide technical guidance and facilitate any process or equipment changes necessary
    • Provide regular sensory feedback on beers
    • Oversee company initiatives related to raw materials, yeast, processes/equipment, etc.
    • Improving and creating unique beer recipes that are consistent with the company’s market position and sales goals.
    • Developing and managing the beer production schedule to ensure product is always available for retail and wholesale distribution and sales.
    • Equipment purchasing decisions, staffing decisions and the sourcing of raw materials must be managed to fit within budget. Selecting top quality ingredients and overseeing the raw material purchasing process to ensure appropriate inventory to meet production needs. This includes having adequate raw materials, and packaging materials on hand.
    • Responsible for maintaining Occupational Health and Safety and compliance with food standards and ensuring that the staff are working in a safe environment. The Brewing Manager manages hygiene on the production line and ensures that food safety standards are maintained.
    • Maintain accurate records and inventory. Detailed records of the beer production process must be maintained.
    • Manage maintenance schedule on the production line, all equipment must be carefully maintained to ensure equipment failure does not delay beer production.
    • Work towards achieving departmental goals around efficiencies, yields and cost
    • Maintain a clean work environment through Clean in Place (CIP) procedures and general housekeeping practices


    Job Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Production, Operations Management, Business Administration, engineering, or related field (highly recommended)
    • 5+ years of experience working in a production brewing environment
    • Pay: $60,000.00 - 90,000.00 per year
    • Previous supervision/manager experience
    • Extensive knowledge of practices, methods, tools and equipment used in production brewing
    • Extensive knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with work
    • Creative aptitude for developing new brands and beer styles
    • Collaborative approach to working within own team and across departments and locations
    • Ability to interpret technical bulletins and schematics on equipment related to work
    • Proven track record of leadership skills
    • Strong communication & organizational skills
    • Understanding of food safety, workplace safety, and food quality


    Physical Requirements
    • Conducts work in a sitting and standing position primarily; however, job requires frequent walking, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 lbs occasionally.
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time on concrete floors and ability to continuously be active including but not limited to: walking, stooping, bending, reaching and crouching
    • Must have the ability to work in a non-temperature controlled environment, handling of hazardous materials, and operation of complex and heavy machinery
