    Bay City Brewing Co. in San Diego is looking for a dedicated and passionate assistant brewer to join our team! We are a small, independently owned brewery experiencing rapid growth and we want you to jump on board. Our production facility is centrally located - close to downtown, beach cities, etc. - we are basically 10 minutes from everywhere in San Diego. We operate an on-site tasting room as well as a full service taproom and kitchen in the downtown neighborhood of East Village. There is massive opportunity for advancement within the brewing team, as we are small (but growing) company.

    SUMMARY:

    The Assistant Brewer is primarily responsible for cellar operations and brewing prep including CIP, grain milling, packaging, yeast handling, cleaning, and tank additions. This position works under the direction of the Brewmaster and is responsible for supporting Bay City Brewing Co in creating the highest quality craft beer, while following all company safety procedures, sanitization practices, and policies. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age to work for Bay City Brewing Co.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Cellar work including tank CIP, yeast handling, tank additions, dry hops
    • Prepare and keep accurate records, both manually and digitally
    • Follow production schedule accurately and prioritize duties accordingly
    • Brewing prep - grain milling and tank prep
    • Transfer / carb / package finished beer according to SOP’s
    • Light warehouse duties - organizing cold storage, receiving raw materials
    • Keep all production areas clean and organized
    • Identify and troubleshoot issues on brewery equipment
    • Other duties and special projects as assigned

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands/conditions described below are representative of those that must be met/tolerated by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
    • Ability to stand, walk, reach, and stoop for an entire 8 hour shift if necessary
    • Lifting up to 55 lbs. and manipulate up to 150 lbs (full keg)
    • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required; including key weekends & holidays
    • Travel to client meetings, networking events and meeting with off-site vendors
    • Sitting at a desk for sometimes long and continuous periods of time
    • Answering or making calls on the telephone for sometimes long and continuous periods of time
    • Using a keyboard to perform research, and to communicate through written means for sometimes long and continuous periods of time
    • Looking at a computer monitor for sometimes long and continuous periods of time
    • Exposure to low to high noise level
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Incumbents must demonstrate the ability to follow policies and procedures as established in the Company’s Employee Handbook. Incumbents will also contribute to a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner such that they get along with all constituent groups, co-workers, and management.

    In addition, the education, experience, and other skills listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

    EDUCATION:
    • Some brewing education is preferred or education in relevant field
    WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • Some brewery experience or brewing specific education preferred
    • Knowledge of raw materials, brewing basics, and production processes preferred

    KEY SKILLS SET:
    • Must be a team player
    • Passionate about beer
    • Mechanical aptitude a plus
    • Must be comfortable in a fast paced production environment, and willing to adapt as challenges arise
    • Willing to pitch in as needed to get things done

    EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATIONS:
    • Familiar with Microsoft & Google Office (Gmail, Excel, Word)
    • Working knowledge of all standard brewery equipment
