Are you a skilled brewer with a passion for exceptional craft beer? Are you excited by the prospect of launching a new beer brand within an established and growing spirits and hospitality organization? Do you have a strong work ethic and a desire to face challenges head on? Please continue!

Journeyman Distillery is expanding to our second location in the fall of 2023 and, along with another high-quality distillery, this time we're adding a brewery as well. Our expecatations for the beer we produce will be just as high as for our award-winning spirits (pssst...we won Whiskey of the Year at the 2022 Ascot Awards).

A few things we think our FIRST Head Brewer ought to know:
    • We will be brewing beer for in-house consumption only - NO intent to distribute.
    • Journeyman has a single owner with a clear vision.
    • Our brewing operations will be backed by the successes of our 12-year old, award-winning distillery.
    • Our distilled spirits are distributed across the US, Europe, and Australia.
    • Our brewing operation will boast a brand new, 10-barrel Sprinkman brew system with automation.
    • The brewery is part of an amazing, $40mil redevelopment of a historic factory building which includes a fully-functional, large-scale distillery, 3 restaurant concepts, multiple events spaces, a karaoke bar, and other amenities.
    • The brewery is set in the beautiful town of Valparaiso, IN - 30 minutes from the Indiana Dunes National Park
    • We have a focus on creating a core product line for the consumer while exploring unique brewing methods from around the world, a barrel-aged brew program, and an NA brew.
The Head Brewer at Journeyman Distillery will oversee and ensure the success of our Brewery operations in Valparaiso, IN.

What is your starting salary as a journeyman head brewer who meets all your attributes and requirements? This should cover any discrepancies when deciding salary “based on experience” . I didn’t see it in the post … (not including a monthly free spirits bottle and 25% off)

Thanks for your interest! Our salary range for this role is quite broad, for a variety of reasons. This will be our first brewing operation so it's a brand new position. Because we have a solid Production team in place on the distilling side of the business, we have some flexibility on the all-around skill level with our hire for the seat. That said, our goal is to hire an individual with a high degree of technical proficiency and to produce nothing short of outstanding beer to compliment our lineup of spirits. If I had to put numbers to the range for sake of conversation, I'd call it $50-65k. Cheers!

Can you explain what a "Monthly Employee Tour with Owner/Founder, Bill Welter" is and why prospective applicants should consider this a benefit?

Isn't this the same parent company as Evil Czech? Do you plan on operating this brewery to same specifications as it's sister brewery?

Shoot me a DM if that's more comfortable. I'm originally from the area and potentially interested in returning but this is kind of a weird advertisement.

Thanks for your inquiry! First, we are not affiliated with Evel Czech's brewery outside of having a great working relationship and them carrying our spirits exclusively. Journeyman has no parent company. We are family-owned and operated with a single owner who intends to keep it that way. The brewery in Valparaiso, IN will be our first and will compliment our distilled spirits and hospitality operations. I added a few notes to the orignial post regarding what to expect with our brewery if you want to have a quick look. The Owner/Founder's tour is a unique opportunity for all new-hires to be welcomed into the organization and includes a telling of the company's history and vision straight from Bill Welter, cuminating in a tasting of about a dozen of our spirits, also led by Bill himself. We believe it's a special touch that you might not get with a lot of other employers.
