    Backpocket shift brewers are responsible for daily wort production and cellar operations. Shift brewers are also responsible for collaborating with the head brewer on new recipes/ideas, process improvements, and improving the overall efficiency of Backpocket Brewing’s production facility. Shift brewers are collectively responsible for ensuring the highest quality product possible for Backpocket’s distribution markets across Iowa and expanding markets around the Midwest.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Ability to follow specific brewing recipe
    • Maintaining brewery cleaning schedule, preventative maintenance, and repairs
    • Monitoring current industry trends and identifying potential competition
    • Maintaining staff safety standards
    • Ability to operate heavy machinery
    • Ability to follow specific brewing recipe and record production batch data using log sheets and Ekos
    • Wort production including mill/mash conversion, lautering, boiling, whirlpool, wort chilling and wort knockout
    • Cellar work including yeast handling, tank CIP, transferring, Filtration, carbonation and dry hop/infusions
    • Daily, weekly, and monthly brewery cleaning duties, preventative maintenance, and repairs
    • Organization and monthly inventory of brewing ingredients
    • Packaging work including legging, canning, and any other packaging needs.

    Additional Tasks
    • Complete any additional assigned tasks by the head brewer
    • Come in with a great attitude and always act as a role model for other team members
    • Occasional serving and representing Backpocket at beer festivals and taproom events
    • Assist head brewer with new recipes and ideas.
    • Help with production planning

    Work Schedule

    · Monday – Friday.

    · Rotating between first and second brew, cellar work, and packaging line.

    · Working One weekend a month for weekend tasks including fermentation management, Milling grain, yeast management and dry hops.

    Hours per week: Minimum 40 to business needs.
