Backslope Brewing is looking for an experienced brewer to become our head brewer. Backslope Brewing is a brewer owned and operated brewpub with a full restaurant in Columbia Falls, Montana, in operation since 2016.
About the Backslope Brewing Program:
The ideal candidate will:
Compensation is dependent on experience, skills, and completed training. Specific training on the Backslope system will be provided by the brewer/owner, but candidates should have a strong brewing background. Once the brewer has full competencies and can run the entire brewing program independently, while graciously supporting and cooperating with the rest of the Backslope staff, potential compensation is $75-95k per year, which includes matching 401k, health insurance, long term disability insurance, paid time off, and shift meals.

About the Backslope Brewing Program:
- 7 bbl direct fire manual system
- All beer sold through the brewpub, packaged in kegs, 400 bbl/year, no distribution
- Styles include American ales, Belgians, saisons, lagers and sours on 18 taps
- All sours and brett beers are oak aged and conditioned on whole local fruit
- Focus on local ingredients and partnerships with local farmers and maltsters
- Clean side: (4) 7 bbl fermenters, (2) 4 bbl fermenters, (2) 7 bbl brites, (1) 5 bbl brite
- Wild side: (1) 7 bbl blending/fruiting brite, (3) 5 bbl fruiting brites
- Oak: (2) 7 bbl foeders, 40 oak barrels (mix of clean and wild)
The ideal candidate will:
- Work independently performing the full range of brewing tasks, including brewing, transferring, kegging, line cleaning, filing reports, general cleaning, etc.
- Perform basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance and repair
- Take meticulous notes and have strong attention to detail
- Be motivated and a self-starter
- Be engaged and thoughtful of the entire operation of brewery and restaurant
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
- Recognize importance of teamwork with entirety of Backslope staff and demonstrate willingness to support the whole business
