  • Head Brewer Position -- The Alementary, Hackensack NJ (NYC Suburban Area)

    The Alementary is seeking a new Head Brewer to lead our production team. Our new (larger) facility is days away from coming online. Our first year goal from this facility is 6000bbls. In our company the Head Brewer reports directly to the Head of Operations, who is also an owner. We're looking for someone not only to lead the team and manage product production, but also who can bring some new creative energy and help develop new innovative products and techniques, and push production boundaries a bit more. This is a collaborative position that required a detail-oriented beer-obsessed self-starter who has the ability to be introspective and critical of his/her own work.

    The Alementary is a 3-year old brewery that has made a fast impact in the mid-Atlantic market. Our lager products lead the way. In our company, everything we do we do ourselves with people on our team. So, cultural fit is also critical--we have a core team of eminently capable people who work fast, independently, collaboratively, and accurately.

    Things you'll be doing include:
    * Managing/mentoring one other brewer and a team of cellar persons, helping them grow in confidence and abilities
    * collaborate with the entire team to create and introduce new products
    * Working to maintain our Lean Manufacturing practices
    * Collaborating with the laboratory staff to define quality standards, critical control points and SOPs
    * Brewing, frequently, on a 15bbl four-vessel brewhouse
    * Maintaining accurate product batch records
    * Sharing responsibility for customer meet-and-greets, "meet the brewer" events, tap takeovers, beer dinners, etc.

    Things you'll need to know look like:
    * 3-5 years direct experience on 3- or 4-vessel systems. Willing to discuss less for the right candidate.
    * More than 3-5 products that you've developed, independently, that were brought to market that we can taste.
    * Ability to lift 55lbs repeatedly
    * Ability to handle half-barrel kegs without assistance
    * Mechanical experience or aptitude is critical
    * Ability to move or to get to Hackensack (4 miles outside the Bronx).
