    Societe Brewing Company is hiring an Assistant Brewer.

    SUMMARY:

    The Assistant Brewer is in charge of all beer movement from knockout to packaging. This is a full-time position and an integral member of the production team. The Assistant Brewer must consistently follow set SOPs while understanding the big picture importance of each step. This position requires critical thinking, attention to detail, and discipline. This position works closely with the Brewers to ensure all duties for the day are completed and reports directly to the Director of Brewing Operations.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    Racking beer, packaging (kegging, canning, and bottling), CIP, assisting brewers, cellar work, basic lab duties, washing kegs, physical cleaning, scrubbing, note-taking, carrying and lifting heavy things.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.


    · The ability to communicate with other team members to prioritize and finish production tasks.


    · Ability to multi-task while maintaining meticulous attention to detail, and time management skills.


    · A self-starter mentality and exceptional drive.


    · Be willing to work safely and efficiently in a wet, non-climate-controlled environment with hazardous chemicals and temperatures.


    · Regular, consistent availability to work eight (8) hour shifts, weekend availability.


    · Ability to work overtime and flexible schedule as needed according to production needs.


    · Operate a forklift safely with pallets of kegs, grains, and barrels.


    · Current, valid driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.


    · Intimate knowledge of craft beer, beer styles, flavors and aromas, as well as the desire to learn more and become familiar with Societe Brewing Company’s production process, and beer portfolio.


    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
    A high school diploma and experience running a canning line. 1-2 years’ experience in a high-volume brewery is helpful but not necessary


    NECESSARY LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
    Other certifications issued via organizations such as UCSD Extension, SDSU Business of Craft Beer Program and Beer Judge Certification Program are a plus.


    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations is required. Problem-solving within the parameters of one’s scope of responsibilities for this position is required.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to stand for long periods of time, walk, use their hands to handle materials, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will frequently be required to talk or hear, and will occasionally be required to taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or push or pull up 50L kegs (weighing 140 pounds each), though adequate tools and assistance will be provided, when possible, to ease this process. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust optical focus.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemicals, and water temperatures of 200+ degrees. The employee will be required to go into the cold box—which is kept at 40 degrees Fahrenheit—for periods of up to 30 minutes at a time. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work ranges from moderate to very loud.
