    POSITION AND ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
    Fort George is hiring a Weekend Cellar for its Brewery crew. Previous production brewing experience preferred. Locally owned and operated, Fort George Brewery crafts original beers distributed only in the Pacific Northwest. Whether in cans or kegs, at our pub in Astoria or on your front porch, our beer brings people together in aromatic headiness and lupulin ecstasy. This position is instrumental to the success of these efforts.

    The purpose of this position is to monitor beer throughout the cellaring process and perform any necessary related tasks. Incumbent documents fermentation processes and relevant data, harvests yeast from preceding fermentations, carries out necessary dry-hopping and other additions, transfers beers to and from various vessels throughout the fermentation process, oversees the carbonation process, cleans tanks and vessels as needed, etc. Often, Weekend Cellar’s responsibilities are accompanied by overlapping tasks as assigned by the Brewery Manager, including but not limited to any/all of the essential functions of the Shift Brewer and Packaging positions. Varying schedule to include weekends, evenings, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Being able to complete all scheduled shifts and tasks as directed by supervisor
    • Recording gravities of various beers in fermentation; keeping accurate and organized records of their progress
    • Adjusting temperatures of various beers in fermentation according to progress, style, and predetermined
    specifications
    • Harvesting yeast for future propagation
    • Dry-hopping and adding various other ingredients when necessary
    • Overseeing the bio-fining process
    • Transferring beers from fermenters to bright beer tanks
    • Overseeing the carbonation process
    • Cleaning and sanitizing fermenters and bright beer tanks before and after use
    • Milling in grain
    • Prepping/Staging grain, hops, packaging materials for upcoming week
    • Operate a keg washing line
    • Basic lab skill for vdk tests and gravity reading with a density meter
    • Maintaining a clean and organized work area
    • Troubleshooting any equipment and pump issues throughout the cellaring process
    • Filling in for absent co-workers as needed
    • Continued education in brewery science, brewing ingredients and processes, etc.
    • Attending all scheduled employee meetings and mandatory events
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

    QUALIFIED APPLICANTS MUST:
    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • Ability to multitask, work without supervision once trained
    • Must possess or be teachable in the following:
    Basic math competency, basic mechanical competency, forklift operator's certification and ability to safely operate brewery equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, canning line, pumps, etc.
    Ability to read labels on chemicals; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with work
    Ability to communicate with coworkers, often in high-noise environment
    • Must be able to adapt to frequent changes in workload and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
    • Valid OLCC Server’s Permit preferred (not required; great if you're willing/able to obtain upon hire)
    • Cicerone Certified Beer Server Certification or greater preferred (not required; great if you're willing/able to obtain upon hire)
