The Cellar Operator will be in charge of managing hot and cold processes within our yeast propagation cellar. Key responsibilities include media preparation in our 3000L boil kettle, harvesting yeast, and clean-in-place (CIP) of fermenters and process equipment.

This is a fast-paced physical role and the Cellar Operator must be able to safely and effectively manage multiple processes simultaneously, while assuring strict adherence to our standard operating procedures.

Commitment to teamwork, organization, process, and aseptic technique is imperative. We are looking for an excellent communicator who prioritizes the success of the team by working with efficiency and helping others whenever possible.

Key responsibilities
  • Preparation of media (wort) from extract
  • Clean-in-Place (CIP) of fermenters
  • Clean-in-Place (CIP) of boil kettle and transfer equipment
  • Sanitize-in-Place (SIP) using heat
  • Monitoring fermentation parameters: pH, gravity, etc.
  • Aseptic harvest of liquid yeast
  • Inoculating propagation vessels
  • Safe use of steam sterilizers (autoclaves)
  • Keeping equipment and materials maintained and organized
  • Equipment sanitation
Interdepartmental and facilities duties include
  • Maintaining inventories
  • Receiving shipments
  • Preventative maintenance of facility and equipment
  • Aseptic transfer of liquid yeast to sales container
  • Preparing shipments: boxes, packing slips, shipping labels
  • Cell counting via manual and automated methods
  • Preparing and pouring plate media

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a cellar or brewing position at a commercial production brewery
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs repeatedly
  • Computer proficiency: email, documents, spreadsheets, search engines
  • Excellent record keeping
  • At least 21 years of age

Compensation and Benefits
  • Compensation range: $45,000 - $60,000 per year (compensation commensurate with experience)
