Packaging Manager Job Opening
Job Function: Packaging and warehouse
Schedule: Full-time, 40+ hours
SXM Beer is looking for a dedicated and professional Packaging Manager to work closely with the production team to meet the demands of our fast growing brewery. SXM Beer is a 5 year old self-distributed production brewery located on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten. SXM Beer produced 1200 bbls in 2023, and is looking to produce 2000 bbls in 2024, packaging multiple brands, using glass bottles and kegs.
This leadership position will head our packaging team bottling on our Inline Microline bottle machine and accessories. The Packaging Manager will also be responsible for kegging operations. We will look to you to build a culture of high accountability to ensure that we are putting out the best beer possible. A successful candidate will be able to juggle multiple priorities, keep the lines of communication open, build a cross-functional team with a safety and quality first mentality, lead by example, be organized, practice sanitary packaging procedures, carry out preventive maintenance, follow quality control protocols, have a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and be an exceptional problem solver. This is a full-time position within our production facility. The Packaging Manager oversees all employees in the packaging department and is responsible for the equipment and operating staff covering bottling, keg cleaning, keg filling, equipment maintenance, and inventories.
Working on the island can be challenging, surmounting these obstacles, life on the island has many rewards; beaches in every direction, unmatched melting-pot culture, exciting nightlife, beautiful hikes, great restaurants, a direct cultural connection to the world, and the friendliest locals anywhere. This is a 8am-5pm M-F job, minor overtime may be required at times but is uncommon.
Duties & Responsibilities:
-Works with Brewmaster/Operations Director to coordinate the packaging schedule
-Schedules production labor with Brewmaster/Operations Director
-Ensure compliance with operational policies and safety standards
-Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain packaging equipment
-Maintain an organized, clean, sanitary, and safe working environment
-Leads and develops packaging teams skillset
-Ensure beer quality is maintained through packaging process
-Develops and maintains SOP’s for CIP and pack operations
-Minimizes packaging downtime via continuous improvement, preventative maintenance, and problem solving
-Responsible for recording inventories and organizing orders of packaging materials
-Works closely with brew and cellar team to ensure smooth flow and completion of the production schedule
-Provides support to shipping & receiving, maintenance, and brewing teams as needed
-Communicates with owners on new product rollouts.
-Assist with event work and draft service
Job Qualifications:
-Two years in a packaging operators role
-Strong Mechanical aptitude
-Able to work in a hot environment
-Good attention to detail and ability to multitask
-Ability to lead packaging crew and delineate tasks
-Ability to visually/audibly recognize cues signaling performance issues
-Create a team environment, foster and encourage learning
-Ability to lift 50+ lbs
-Fork lift certification is a perk
