The Quality Assurance Manager’s focus is to assist the brewery in maintaining the highest level of quality lagers and ales possible. Execute a QA/QC regimen to ensure the efficient, safe, and high-quality production of wort, beer, cans and kegs. The manager will be responsible for raw material and finished product quality analysis This includes but is not limited to:
• Microbiological sampling and testing
• Analysis of in process and packaged product
• Maintaining standards of laboratory processes and regular auditing of these processes
• Detailed and accurate record keeping including statistical reporting
• Managing tasting panel and sensory analysis programs
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Analysis of raw materials
- Analysis of wort
- Analysis of fermentation, bright beer, and packaged beer
- Analysis of process equipment
- Maintaining the lab
- Managing lab staff and personnel
- Working closely with the Head Brewer to maintain Quality standards and improve practices and procedures
- Works closely with Packaging Manager to ensure quality product is ready for packaging and is maintained throughout the packaging process
- Works closely with Logistics Manager to maintain von Trapp standards in the market.
- Manages Tasting Panel and sensory analysis programs
- Maintains a clean and orderly workshop and workstation
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Analyzes and reports on quality concerns from the marketplace
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- BS in microbiology, chemistry, bio-chemistry minimum or related food science degree
• 3-5 Years in food / beverage quality management preferred
• Must have management experience with direct reports
• BS degree in microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry or relevant work experience
• Advanced math and reading skills
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently with limited direction and within a team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Complete proficiency in Microsoft Office suite: especially Excel and Access
- A strong background in microbiology and chemistry, including knowledge of ASBC standard analysis is ideal.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and do physically demanding work is required.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. is required.
- Willingness to work on and around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery is required
- Willingness to work in an environment with high noise levels is required
