Experienced Taproom Manager Position, Barrier Brewing Co., Oceanside, NY
Barrier Brewing Company is looking for and experienced, forward looking manager, to help bring our taproom experience to the next level.
An experienced taproom manager will have exposure to all essential duties and management of employees in any of the following areas: *brewery production, taproom or brewpub, bar/beerhall, restaurant, food service or hospitality*. Management experience in office or other environments will be considered, if coupled with a strong knowledge of specific areas related to the taproom and brewing industry.
The ideal candidate will have a unique opportunity to help the brewery and taproom exit the Covid shutdown in a strong position to expand it's capabilities on all fronts.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
• Schedule, manage, direct and supervise taproom staff in day to day operations. Tasks include:
-write and post monthly schedule for servers/beertenders, adjusting as necessary to cover team member call-ins or shortages in accordance with policy
-adjusting the amount of staff on-hand as business dictates (labor cost control)
-coordinate with upper management to help hire and train new staff as necessary
-enforce standards of work behavior including timeliness, attitude, customer interactions, adherence to the drinking policy, completion of sidework
-recording of financial transactions using back end POS software and other methods
-respond to and resolve customer concerns and complaints and correct potential problems before they affect customers
-help resolve any employee grievances and/or HR concerns with upper management
-encourage individual initiative beyond the job requirements
-foster a positive culture among all team members.
• Responsible for the seamless operation of the taproom in regards to staffing, supplies, and event execution, 7 days a week. This requires advanced managerial planning to accommodate for personal time off.
• Monitor and record cash flow through daily balance of small cash drawer, preparation and reconciliation of cash drawers, and monitoring and maintaining strict and consistent adherence to company cash control policies, including accountability and responsibility for any and all cash inconsistencies.
• Maintain taproom standards of cleanliness, appearance, and functionality. Tasks include:
-oversee and assist in daily cleaning of bar area, taproom/patio spaces, and restrooms
-maintain and troubleshoot taproom equipment as necessary, coordinate all services and maintenance schedules
-ensure consistent supply of taproom necessities through regular ordering of glassware, snack items, custodial supplies, and any other necessities
-maintain fluency in POS system and ensure the daily functionality of POS machines and printers
-maintain knowledge of and maintain functionality of PA/sound system.
- Develop private event/party offerings (coordinating with upper management and 3rd Rail Kitchen, food trailer operation)
• Help to Plan, Organize, Develop, and Facilitate taproom/brewery sponsored events and private parties on a monthly and yearly basis. This includes live music, brewery-sponsored parties, special beer releases, and more.
• Act as a supervisor/leader in daily operations through consistent presence during operating hours, assisting staff as necessary.
• Taproom improvements and projects in coordination with the upper management
Experience/Qualifications
• 3+ years experience in the service industries listed above*
• Managerial experience required
• Ability to lead in a fast paced, highly dynamic environment
• Ability to tackle a multitude of tasks; managing your time wisely and efficiently
Expectations
• 45 hours/week minimum
- Fill in for servers/beertender as needed (ability to earn tips)
• Regularly scheduled availability on nights and weekends is required
• Regular communication with owners (weekly meetings and updates)
