This position reports directly to ownership and is responsible for everything having to do with the production and packaging of our various products. The Brewmaster is responsible for the direct management of all brewery production staff including ensuring their adherence to all company policies. Production Operations Manager/Brewmaster Job Description
This position reports directly to ownership and is responsible for everything having to do with the production and packaging of our various products. The Brewmaster is responsible for the direct management of all brewery production staff including ensuring their adherence to all company policies. Duties include but are not limited to the following.
- Establishing and maintaining standard operating procedures with regard to brewery sanitation, brewhouse execution (brew days), beer transfer and packaging.
- Including the writing of manuals for new employees to be given
- Quality assurance
- Utilizing the tools we have in the brewery (dissolved oxygen meter, microscope) to ensure a quality product and employing outside vendors for more in depth testing (ABV, IBU, microbial contamination)
- Field QA – tasting the beer when out, responding to client issues
- Procurement of raw materials (grain, hops, yeast, fruit, etc) and packaging materials (cans, kegs, case carriers, six pack handles), sanitation chemicals
- Coordinate logistics for the shipping and receiving of materials
- Work with various vendors to ensure a Just-in-time inventory of cans
- Coordinate the removal of spent brewing grains
- Recipe formulation and refinement for all main brewery (30BBL) batches and most pilot brewery (1.5BBL) batches
- Production planning and task scheduling for the brewery staff to ensure fresh product of our regular beers as well as specialty and seasonal batches.
- Long term (yearly) production planning to ensure hop contracts are in line and renegotiating when necessary
- Plant and Equipment maintenance – there are several ongoing projects that change as we get busier and as we discover methods to refine our processes
- Many projects are ‘DIY’ but if a contractor is needed, 3 quotes will be procured and decided amongst
- Scheduling preventative maintenance on large equipment (i.e. boiler)
- Intimate knowledge and performance of every process in the brewery
- Brewhouse operation (30BBL and 1.5BBL)
- Beer transfer
- Tank/Brewhouse sanitation
- Canning line operation including sanitation and modification
- General brewery sanitation (scrub floors)
- Cellar work – dryhopping, beer clarifying, yeast maintenance
- Ensure a diverse line up of beers for the tap room and maintain 16 different beers at all times

- Interdepartmental Communication
- Weekly meetings with Director of Sales to discuss upcoming events and the week’s shipments and addressing any anomalies to recent trends (i.e. seasonal beer production, new shipment to a large account)
- Communicate with marketing (Max Harcsar, Haley Mills, Mike Hammond) about upcoming beers and their descriptions
- Communicate with the Tap Room Manager about new beers and staff education
