Summary:
Our General Manager will work with our Co-Founders, Bar Manager, and the Executive Chef to lead and maintain an efficient and productive workspace while continuing a healthy workspace environment.
We are looking to add another person to our team who is passionate about food, beer and travel. Elsewhere’s taproom in Grant Park brings all these components together in a homey atmosphere. Taking inspiration from beer gardens in Bavaria, pubs in Yorkshire, cafes in Brussels, and drinking halls in Prague, the Elsewhere team designed a space that will take you from the daily grind and transport you to a place where the beer is crisp, the food is delicious, and the service is always warm. The food program is led by Chef Tyler Edwards who focuses on seasonality and use of local ingredients that features flavors from all places.
The GM will lead the team of FOH professionals to deliver high quality service following company policy and procedures to assure the optimal guest experience. They will lead and encourage a strong, positive, “team” attitude. They will also take the initiative to step in and assist with other roles when needed – hostess, expediter, bartender, dishwasher, etc. They will maintain systems for optimal organization and be knowledgeable of all things happening in the taproom.
Essential Duties and Qualifications (Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)
- Minimum three plus years of hospitality management experience
- Must be available nights and weekends
- Have a true passion for the development and mentoring of others
- Takes full responsibility for employee relations, enforcing good habits in staff and creating improvement plans. Takes disciplinary action when necessary.
- Provide consistent support to the success of the FOH operation: assist fellow employees when needed, maintain clean and tidy conditions, and maintain overall taproom organization
- Honesty, integrity and a love for customer satisfaction
- Solid knowledge of safe serving procedures, including guest de-escalation
- Onboarding new hires and being heavily involved in training FOH staff
- Following and enforcing human resource management practices (outsourced)
- Can contribute to a positive teamwork environment and maintain a professional demeanor
- Leads team in getting prepared for service with pre-shift meetings and ensuring all tasks have been completed prior to opening
- Follows and enforces daily and weekly taproom procedures during service
- Floor managing during peak hours, ensuring beer and food are hitting tables consistently and up to company standards. Making sure staff is working diligently, and guests are happy
- Managing customer relations with table touching, creating relationships and remembering faces. De-escalating and putting out fires quickly and calmly when they occur
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possesses excellent communication & leadership skills
- Confident delegating to, verbally correcting & coaching team members
- Performs calmly under pressure
- Manages time effectively and understands sense of urgency
- Learns new procedures quickly
- Has a strong organization system and is very detail oriented
- High School Diploma
- 3+ years managerial experience
- Knowledgeable and passionate about beer and food
- 4+ years of working in taprooms or restaurants
