Summary

The Quality Manager role at Societe Brewing Company is to support the production team by providing and analyzing critical control points, managing the tasting panel, as well as building a structured Experimental Design. The Quality manager will manage team members in the lab, and develop tracking systems in order to ensure consistent product on a regular basis. The Quality Manager will work closely with the production and packaging managers and report to the VP of Brewing.

Essential Duties

Analyze and Manage data from the production team
  • Manage, record and analyze critical control points through the brewing process
  • Inform team of critical control point deviations.
  • Develop systems and checks, in order to prevent packaging of out of spec product
  • Maintain and organize all data in a standardized fashion so that it is searchable and readable for all members of the production team.
  • Development and upkeep of SOP’s in order to uphold consistent process and product
Curate tasting panel
  • Select beers to drink in a curated tasting panel to gather statistically significant product quality and consistency data on all core and regularly produced product
  • Train and develop the tasting panel to further understand on brand flavor and off flavors
  • Use tasting panel to inform new flavor development and process adjustments
Develop and oversee Societe’s Quality Management System
  • Using statistical analysis: help develop critical control points for wort, yeast, raw material, and finished product to help inform production decisions
  • Apply Experimental Design to inform process adjustments.
  • Develop and run ROI on new equipment to expand the labs analytical abilities
  • Help build the lab as the company grows.
  • Create an environment where data and statistical analysis are the main contributing factors in production decisions.

  • Regular, consistent availability to work eight (8) hour shifts, weekend availability
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible schedule as needed according to production needs
  • Current, valid driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Intimate knowledge of craft beer, beer styles, flavors and aromas, as well as the desire to learn more and become familiar with Societe Brewing Company’s production process, and beer portfolio

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: A degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, food science or related field. Experience and skills with Microsoft excel and word. Experience working in beer or other alcohol manufacturing is preferred. Experience in a management role.

NECESSARY LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:.) Other certifications issued via organizations such as UCSD Extension, SDSU Business of Craft Beer Program and Beer Judge Certification Program are a plus.
