Taproom & Events Manager Job description
Background:
In March 2018 FINNEGANS opened its first-ever brewery and taproom in the East Town Minneapolis. The Brewery, which is located in the FINNEGANS House which is a four-story building that features the FINNEGANS Brewery & Taproom, a 2nd floor Brewer’s Den event space, 3rd floor Mosaic Events and the FINNOVATION Lab, an entrepreneurship incubator and co-working space. The FINNEGANS House is a part of a larger mixed-use development by Kraus-Anderson in the Elliot Park neighborhood in East Town Minneapolis.
FINNEGANS is a craft brewery and self-sustaining social enterprise that believes in building strong communities by aspiring to alleviate hunger in every market where FINNEGANS is sold, including MN, WI, ND, and SD. Through the sale of its beer, FINNEGANS has created an innovative social business model that creates community wealth through the donation of a portion of it's profits back into the communities it serves, supporting the FINNEGANS Community Fund (501c3). FINNEGANS proudly acquired and brews Hairless Dog 0.0% Non-Alcoholic brews as of 2022, which has expanded our distribution reach across 31 states in the continental U.S.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Work with the ownership and FOH team to develop programming and other sales strategies for achieving specified taproom sales goals
· Manage P & L and Labor of the Taproom and Events
· Lead and execute events
· Opening and closing the taproom, along with MOD’s (setting up and closing down cash drawers, ensuring that the taproom is clean and ready for patrons, restocking/ordering any necessary supplies, addressing any unforeseen needs)
· Ensuring that the beers on tap are acceptable to serve (right temperature, optimal quality, no off-smells or flavors)
Creating and maintaining a pleasant taproom environment (temperature, music, cleanliness, conduct)
· Coordinate and lead quarterly Front of the House meetings
· Managing food truck schedule, catering (for special events) and creating and maintaining relationships with local food establishments that deliver to the taproom
· Maintaining accurate taproom inventory (glassware, growlers, merch, etc.)
· Stepping in as beer tender and/or beer educator as needed
· Working towards continuous optimization of taproom operations
· Serving as team leader to staff of beer tenders
· Provide a weekly event calendar for internal team and provide a monthly events update to share with FINNEGANS target of local businesses and residences.
· Provide website updates to web support company as needed
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
· Available to work nights and weekends
· Prior bar / restaurant experience, or prior taproom / bartending experience
· Demonstrated knowledge of craft beer, including basic understanding of beer production (Cicerone Beer Server or similar certification preferred)
· Excellent communication and organizational skills
· Exceptional customer service skills
· Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
· Ability to anticipate and proactively address problems in a fast-paced environment
· Demonstrated leadership
· Positive attitude and ability to work with a diverse set of people
· Familiarity with tablet-based POS systems and other web-based / MS Office software
· Ability to lift 35-50 lbs
· Ability to move full kegs with the aid of a dolly
· Aptitude for and desire to learn the mechanical workings of taproom equipment in order to address problems quickly and efficiently
· Grace under pressure
Working Conditions:
This position requires an individual who works under a range of circumstances, including: shift work, weekend work, working with challenging patrons, working in the fast-paced environment of a crowded taproom, and working within close proximity of an operating brewery (noise, heavy equipment, odors related to the brewing process).
Physical requirements:
The Taproom & Events Manager will likely be required to stand for extended periods of time when overseeing taproom operations and/or serving as alternate beer tender. S/He may also be required to lift boxes 35-50 lbs and move empty / full kegs with the help of a dolly.
Eligible for Health Insurance, Paid Time Off, as well as underground parking onsite.
