LEAD BREWER

Job Overview


The Lead Brewer is responsible for leading the brewing and packaging team and coordinating materials to produce top quality and consistent beer. The Lead Brewer is also responsible for keeping the brewing staff on the forefront of brewing innovation, excellence, and sustainability. The Lead Brewer will teach, train, and grow the brewing team to be well-rounded, top brewers in the industry. They will report directly to Head Brewer.

General Responsibilities
• Manage brewing and cellaring schedule in support of production needs. Oversee staffing plans and tasks performed by all brewing, cellaring, and packaging staff members
• Develop, institute, and maintain quality assurance program to ensure that beers produced are consistent and of the highest quality
• Develop, implement, and maintain a continuous improvement program in regards to existing recipes. Adjust and fine tune existing recipes as needed to improve the overall quality, shelf life, and consistency of each beer
• Execute and support beer release calendar and pilot brew schedule
• Execute preventative maintenance program and perform planned and unplanned maintenance as necessary. Delegate maintenance as needed depending on skill level of available employees and safety concerns associated with task.
• Serve as primary point of contact for brewery material suppliers, and mediate any quality and supply issues. Oversee inventory control for all raw ingredients and brewery supplies
• Oversee staff development plans and support the continuing education of all production staff
• Oversee the implementation of Mother Earth’s safety program
• Maintain constant communication with operations management team on any issues and their development
• Organize and unite the team on focused goals inside the brewery. Prioritize, clarify and follow through with department goals and objectives with production staff so they understand, unite and achieve
• Continuously research, analyze, and recommend new and innovative processes and equipment that improve the quality or profitability of Mother Earth beer
• Develop and oversee implementation of Mother Earth Standard Operating Procedures for all production processes, including brewing, cellaring, packaging, quality control, cleaning and sanitization
• Develop and implement 5S strategies to Sort, Streamline, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain brewery areas and promote organization and cleanliness throughout the brewery.
• Participate in Mother Earth events where needed and represent our brewery with professionalism and passion

Qualifications
• Management experience!!
• Bachelors degree or higher in Science or Engineering, or equivalent years of experience
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Full understanding of beer science, brewhouse, and cellar operations
• Strong verbal communication and organizational skills
• Absolute passion for brewing and beer
• Ability to lift and move 175 pound keg occasionally
• Ability to lift 55 pounds repetitively
• Forklift certified
