Kalona Brewing Company is a craft brewery and scratch-focused restaurant located in the downtown area of the beautiful, rural Kalona, Iowa, just 15 miles outside of Iowa City. Independently and locally-owned and operated, employees enjoy a family-feel staff in a professional environment. Joining the now-burgeoning Iowa craft beer scene eight years ago, Kalona Brewing proudly distributes their “Heavenly Beers, Brewed by Mere Mortals,” in kegs and cans across eastern and central Iowa. KBC has a 15 barrel brewing system, packages on site and self-distributes.
The sales and distribution manager will lead a three-to-five person sales and distribution team in maintaining and growing accounts in Iowa, with a focus on eastern and central Iowa; be responsible for beer delivery and quality control and the creation of efficient sales routes; assist in analyzing, forecasting and advising on craft beer sales trends for both the restaurant and region; participating in occasional special events (e.g. beer festivals); will work directly with the production team for planning and inventory tracking, the head and lead brewers as needed, and the marketing manager to create sustainable growth of a successful brand.
The position requires finding, securing and maintaining new key account relationships as well as maintaining established accounts while working within quarterly and annual budgets.
In addition, the sales and distribution manager works with the restaurant’s general manager to appropriately stock the taproom, with the marketing manager to provide regular market feedback and resources and support for special events, and will help to manage a small team of brand ambassadors. The job may require occasional additional tasks not listed here. This position reports directly to KBC ownership.
Location: Based in Kalona, Iowa with required travel across eastern and central Iowa
Compensation & benefits: Compensation based on experience; includes paid vacation, holidays, sick leave and personal time
Number of years of related experience: 3+ years
Required experience qualifications: Sales experience in the alcohol industry; a strong knowledge of craft beer; delivery and/or distribution experience; team leadership work or training; a work history involving collaborative endeavors; tracking and working within a budget
Additional requirements: Driver license and clean driving record; computer knowledge
Necessary qualities: This position requires a candidate that is a self-starter who can work independently and flexibly with efficient time management; an excellent planner and clear communicator; a person that can both lead and collaborate respectfully; someone that can compile and analyze data while injecting creative solutions and concepts based on research and past outcomes. Understanding the KBC brand is a must, with the ability to recognize its uniqueness in the craft beer industry.
Bonus experience: Experience with Google Docs, Excel spreadsheets, and BeerRun brewery management software; education or experience in marketing; knowledge of beer packaging, and brewing equipment function and maintenance; ability to operate a forklift
Physical requirements: Applicants will be required to transport and lift kegs and boxes up to 60 lbs. safely, to stand for long periods of time and be comfortable working on their feet while keeping safety in the work environment a priority.
