Central City Brewers and Distillers, twice recognised as the Canadian Brewery of the Year, is looking for a SENSORY
SCIENTIST to join our team of dedicated employees.
The SENSORY SCIENTIST will be responsible for the oversight and continued development of all
aspects of the sensory program for Central City Brewers & Distillers. This is a cross-functional role
and will include duties in all Quality Control areas.
Key skills include an advanced knowledge of Sensory evaluation, applicable knowledge in statistics
and statistical software packages, the ability to make recommendations in ambiguous situations,
strong problem solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, mathematical knowledge, English verbal
and written communications skills.
Sensory Duties:
Conduct basic sensory training to support brewers and quality functions as needed, especially
for new panel members; Maintain database on the progress of all sensory panelists through
training
Develop, train and monitor various sensory panels including discrimination and descriptive
panels.
Helps ensure product quality through monitoring sensory characteristics of all brands. Develop
target profiles for brands with the support of the descriptive panel.
Execute sensory testing using proper sensory methods and techniques.
Analyze and interpret sensory data, including generating statistical results and graphs for
completed sensory data and convey results to stakeholders.
Other Quality Duties:
Monitor packaging to ensure consistent quality.
Monitor all brewery processes on a chemical and microbiological level
Maintain lab equipment.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a background in sensory analysis, preferably from the beer, whiskey,
perfume or wine industries. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Computer literate and
able to operate Microsoft Office. More niche experience in analysis and data storage systems is a
plus. Bachelor’s degree (food science, fermentation science, or brewing preferred). Minimum of 5
years of experience in sensory analysis, production environment is preferred. Flexibility to adjust work
schedule based on needs of the business. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to
35 pounds.
As this position is based in British Columbia, applicants will need to demonstrate valid work rights for Canada. Salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
