The Product Development Manager is responsible for overseeing the development of a complex portfolio of products at the Boston Beer Company. This role utilizes the latest consumer and technical trends from within and outside of the beverage industry to lead a team of product developers who design, test, and launch a range of innovative beverages for the target consumer. Throughout development, the Product Development Manager communicates cross-functionally with departments such as commercialization, legal, quality assurance, and marketing to ensure that we are launching high-quality & scalable products that meet all project objectives within a given timeline.

The Product Development Manager is responsible for overseeing the development of a complex portfolio of products at the Boston Beer Company. This role utilizes the latest consumer and technical trends from within and outside of the beverage industry to lead a team of product developers who design, test, and launch a range of innovative beverages for the target consumer. Throughout development, the Product Development Manager communicates cross-functionally with departments such as commercialization, legal, quality assurance, and marketing to ensure that we are launching high-quality & scalable products that meet all project objectives within a given timeline.
What You'll Do:
- Manage technical personnel, including priority setting, coaching and skill development
- Manage a complex and dynamic project portfolio to ensure attainment of business goals, including prioritization and execution strategy
- Lead product development and ingredient technology efforts to develop and commercialize new and improved products
- Leverage consumer insights and emerging technologies to guide product innovation and renovation plans
- Oversees the development of a complex portfolio of products including guiding daily activity, adhering to timelines, and communicating project statuses
- Organizes and presents status on projects while appropriately prioritizing team activities based on business objectives
- Maintains and evolves standards of professionalism for communication and project management
- Proactively engages in problem solving to fit the cross-functional needs of the business, including Operations, Marketing, Sales, etc.
- Improves systems and streamlines processes as needed
What We're Looking For:
- BS In Food Science or Related field required
- Advanced business degree or food science degree a plus
- Minimum 8+ years’ experience in food R&D with at least 3+ years leading technical professionals
- Advanced business degree or food science degree a plus
- Excellent understanding of product development process and stage gate principles
- Strong knowledge of the interaction of culinary art, mixology, food science and nutrition
- Strong knowledge of Sensory and Consumer Research Methods
- Proven ability to work with a flexible and changing schedule
- Proven ability to guide a team in prioritizing and executing a large number of projects with shifting needs
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Regularly required to stand for long periods of time
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
