    QC and Canning Technician

    Wrightsville Beach Brewery is seeking to add an individual to our production crew to help take us to the next level in terms of quality control, monitoring and assurance. We are a mid-size brewpub located in the coastal North Carolina city of Wilmington. While we are a full service restaurant, we also brew 20 bbl batches in our production brewery with a wide local distribution footprint. We are poised for further growth and seeking career-focused individuals to grow with us as a company. Furthermore, Wrightsville Beach Brewery believes strongly in giving back to our community and we pair our beer with some top notch local charities, donating 11% of proceeds each month. Wilmington offers a vibrant quality of life, plenty of fun on the water, arts and music scenes and a growing beer community with more than a dozen other local breweries.

    Our QC Technician will work closely with the Director of Brewing Operations to develop and implement SOPs to improve fermentation, dissolved oxygen concentrations and measuring overall beer quality as well as working on the canning line, maintaining seam integrity and helping us improve shelf stability. Additionally, we would like to add sensory analysis and testing to our regimen in the future. As we are on track to open a second location in the vicinity, we anticipate this will be a full time job with the opportunity to grow with us as a company.

    • Work with the team to implement our quality standards.
    • Effective communication and working with the team to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
    • Learn all aspects of operating our canning line and making sure we keep up a high standard of quality from the beginning of the canning line to the end.
    • Develop, coordinate, and participate in product testing, including a sensory program to aid in batch consistency and overall customer satisfaction.
    • Work with cellarperson to manage yeast and fermentation
    • Maintain a clean workspace and assist as needed in general brewery hygiene and cleanliness.
    • Learning to maintain the equipment you utilize and helping with repairs and upgrades.
    • Review customer feedback and help us determine flaws or sources of errors if any should arise.
    • We are looking for people with a positive attitude, who can work both independently and as a member of a team. As a member of a small, tight-knit production team you may be asked to assist where needed around the property. A “we’re all in this together” outlook is a must.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Two years of experience of work on or with a brewery canning line.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in the biological sciences, preferably with an emphasis in microbiology, or a brewing/fermentation sciences degree or certification preferred. Equivalent demonstrable on-the-job experience will certainly be considered.
    • Academic or professional experience in a microbiology laboratory, or brewery QC lab.
    • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
    • A passion for and knowledge of craft beer. A willingness to keep learning. Homebrewing or professional brewing experience is a plus.
    • Must be 21 or older, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, and the ability to lift 60 pounds to shoulder height and lift/maneuver 165 pounds off the ground.
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, work safely on wet surfaces and in and out of cold environments. Being safety-minded with situational awareness, and proper hazardous chemical handling is a must!

    Benefits and Compensation:

    This will be a full time (32+ hours/week), hourly-paid position. Compensation is competitive based on experience, with opportunity for merit-based increases in pay.
