    This role serves as the technical expert for chromatography methods, instrumentation, and applications. This role also evaluates new techniques, methods and instrumentation while also maintaining and improving existing protocols. Work daily with the Brewing, New Product Development, and Sensory teams to drive quality and consistency for consumers. Must have knowledge of brewing and blending processes, analytical laboratory skills, and exceptional organization silks with ability to juggle multiple projects at one time.

    What You'll Do:
    • Support trial work for both beer and blend products across all production locations including research facilities, production breweries, and third-party sites
    • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization: brewing, blending, sensory, and quality
    • Ability to develop and manage long-term research initiatives while maintaining the flexibility to address short-term needs as they arise.
    • Mastery of a wide variety of analytical instrumentation; GC and U/HPLC with appropriate detectors
    • Familiar with various sample preparation, extraction, and solvent exchange techniques
    • Strong instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and record keeping skills
    • Strong method design, development, and validation via MDLs and MCLs
      • Methods development for fermentation by-products for all alcoholic bases including malt, sucrose, and fruit based fermentations
      • Method development for raw materials (water, malt, sugars, juices, spices, hops, etc.) to track quality and consistency within cultivars and across growing regions and crop years
      • Method development for natural flavors quality related to flavor aging, oxidation, and flavor batch consistency
      • Analysis of carbohydrates, hop oils, bitterness, sulfur profile, DMS and other key beer quality analytes
    • Stay current on industry research
    • Ability to multitask and organize, balance sample throughput and data interpretation.
    • Reporting to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Explore new/alternative testing methods and equipment to drive understanding and improvements

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    • Regularly required to stand for long periods of time
    • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

    What We're Looking For:
    • BS degree in a related science: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Analytical Chemistry required
    • 5+ years’ experience in an analytical laboratory (brewing preferred)
    • Advanced experience operating and troubleshooting GC-MS and U/HPLC
    • Method development with GC-MS, GC-O and U/HPLC
    • Strong understanding of chemistry
    • Good communication skills
    • Excellent organization skills
    • Proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook
    • Familiar with Waters’ UPLC and Perkin Elmer GC-MS a plus
    • Working knowledge of the brewing process a plus
    • Fermentation chemistry knowledge a plus
