This position is responsible for growing and maintaining our Quality Program. This person will be a leader on the production team and take ownership of the Quality Department. This person will act as a strategic thought partner to the Head Brewer and Operations Director to figure out solutions that improve and ensure exceptional beer quality. The position will also drive compliance with the FDA.

This position is responsible for growing and maintaining our Quality Program. This person will be a leader on the production team and take ownership of the Quality Department. This person will act as a strategic thought partner to the Head Brewer and Operations Director to figure out solutions that improve and ensure exceptional beer quality. The position will also drive compliance with the FDA.
Job Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Formulates and maintains quality control objectives and coordinates objectives with other managers to maximize quality and reliability and to minimize costs.
- Perform necessary quality assurance testing (e.g. daily beer checks, measurements of ingredients and packaging materials, beer chemistry, beer carbon dioxide and oxygen levels, finished package quality, etc).
- Perform necessary microbiological testing, recording, and reporting.
- Provide monthly reports to production team and management noting product trends and quality deviations.
- Apply high level root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills to resolve process and quality issues or concerns.
- Yeast management including harvest and propagation, cell counts, viability counts, pitch rate calculation, slant preparation/maintenance and propagation.
- Packaged product sampling and analysis including gas analysis, seam analysis, microbiological analysis, total package quality checks, and shelf life study.
- Maintain a sensory analysis program; conduct scheduled sensory training with staff.
- Maintain the lab in a neat and orderly condition and ensure a sufficient supply of consumable materials.
- Manages laboratory budget as well as make recommendations for new laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and services.
- Contribute to management of safe practices.
- Contribute to a culture of consistency and constant improvement while inspiring creativity.
- Participate in management meetings to assist with total process flow.
- Assist with other functions and support as needed.
- Maintain a standard of conduct that supports the company vision and policy.
- Participation in professional organizations with focus on keeping up to date with industry trends.
- Prompt and Professional response to all Quality concerns and inquiries.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in one of the natural sciences: Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or Food Sciences is required.
- Experience in QC/QA in the brewing industry and understanding of the brewing process is highly desired.
- Ability to analyze data to determine trends and make decisions.
- Sensory panel training and experience is a plus.
- Packaging experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with laboratory equipment (e.g. microscope, pH meter, automated cell counter, spectrophotometer, centrifuge, autoclave, etc.) is required.
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and working in a sanitary environment.
- Experienced with Google Workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High attention to detail and record keeping.
- Possess the stamina for continuous standing and walking.
- Ability to move up to 100lbs.
