    Job description


    Sleeping Giant Brewing Company is searching for a Full-Time Packaging Operator.

    This position is responsible for operating, basic troubleshooting, and changeover of beverage packaging equipment. Experienced machine operators willing to learn our machinery will be considered. Previous food and beverage machine experience is desirable but not required.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Include but not limited to:
    • Operation of one or more pieces of equipment including can/bottle/keg fillers, carton erector, tray former, and de-palletizer
    • Perform work in adherence with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and revise and create new documented SOP’s as needed
    • Operate material handling equipment (i.e. forklift, pallet jack, etc.) to move packaging supplies and packaged goods within the facility
    • Responsible for product quality inspections including collecting and documenting QC data as it pertains to product packaging standards (seam checks, leak checks, etc)
    • Conducting machine changeovers to accommodate changes in package type
    • Performing basic routine preventive maintenance.
    • Trouble shooting and basic repairs of machinery working with Maintenance Dept. to expedite repairs as necessary
    • Performs cleaning activities w/ chemicals and cleaning equipment plus manual cleaning
    • Operating the packaging equipment efficiently to meet line speed and production goals
    • Maintain accurate daily records of machine operations and down time

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Must be 21 years of age or older
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • The ability to perform the physical demands of the position including but not limited to:

    Lifting up to 40 lbs repeatedly

    Maneuvering up to 165 lbs keg

    Working on feet for up to 10 hours (with breaks of course)

    Occasionally needing to bend, kneel, and crouch

    Working in a non-temperature-controlled facility in seasonally warm and cool conditions
    • Committed to a safe working environment and adherence to company policies and objectives.
    • Committed to maintaining machine cleanliness and workplace organization to meet rigid quality and safety standards.
    • Willingness and ability to be forklift operation certified.
    • Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude
    • Ability to work with a team and effectively cooperate with other functional areas

    Preferred Skills and Experience:
    • 1-2 year of experience in high-speed machine operation or packaging equipment operation
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience with computers in a manufacturing setting (e.g., electronic settings, line speed, pressures, basic troubleshooting, solving for faults/alarms and resetting equipment, etc.)
    • Experience reading schedules (e.g., products being produced, understanding production requirements, production planning, managing changeovers, etc.)
    • Forklift experience and accustomed to handling pallets (stacking, wrapping, etc.)
    • Passion for maintaining machine cleanliness and workplace organization to meet rigid quality and safety standards.
    • High attention to detail in operations and documentation
