  • Packaging Technician - Bellingham, Washington - Craft Brewery

    Boundary Bay Brewing Company is seeking a Packaging Technician to join the team. Located in Bellingham, Washington, we've been a community-crafted brewery since 1995.

    This position’s primary responsibilities will be the packaging of beer into cans, bottles, and the occasional kegs, this includes the operation of packaging machinery and the cleaning and sanitation of packaging areas and machinery including warehouse management. The Packaging Technician position is full-time and will report directly to the Head Brewer. Additionally, the Packaging Technician will work closely with all production departments including Quality Control and communicate with the Operations Manager for supply needs.

    The following list of essential job duties is not all-inclusive; the Packaging Technician is required to perform other duties as directed by the Head Brewer and Operations team.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Leading a team in packaging quality beer in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Regular attendance in order to work packaging shifts as scheduled by the Head Brewer. (4x10hr shifts)
    • Work in tandem with Head Brewer, Production Schedule, and QC & QA.
    • Operate machinery following all safety guidelines in an efficient manner.
    • Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to brewery standards.
    • 1+ years of brewing experience is desired.
    • Keep the packaging areas and workspaces clean and organized, please.
    • Help out as needed in other parts of the brewery. (Team Player)
    • Perform basic maintenance on machinery to ensure it is functioning safely, properly, and efficiently.
    • Communicate all mechanical issues to the Head Brewer and maintenance department in a timely manner.
    • Communicate the department’s materials needs with the Operations Manager to ensure the production schedule is executable.
    • Attend biweekly/monthly departmental meetings
    • Maintain packaging tools and materials by storing them safely, neatly, and in an organized fashion.
    • Ensure finished product is safely and neatly stored in the cooler, logged and updated in brewery software (we use EKOs around here) accurately.
    • Complete all paperwork associated with each duty with 100% accuracy.
    • Assist co-workers and cross-train, as requested, in other departments to ensure brewery goals are accomplished.
    • Build orders for Distribution outlets provided by Brand Distribution Manager.

    TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
    • Basic computer proficiency
    • Operating QA Equipment (Anton Paar C-Box)
    • Operating Canning Line (We use a Wild Goose)
    • One year minimum experience running a Wild Goose canning line or an equivalent.
    • Forklift, Palletjack, Handtruck and Scissorlift Operations
    • Able to play Cooler Tetris AKA cooler management
    • Ability to research equipment needs

    • Creative problem solving. We work in a 25+ year old brewery with some quirks. Creativity and problem solving are always encouraged.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be able to, with assistance, continually lift 65 pounds and move 175 pounds (half-barrel kegs) regularly and repeatedly.
    • Must have the ability to regularly stand for 10 hours, walk, use hands, reach, climb, work from heights, stoop, kneel and crouch.
    • The ability to work near moving parts and machinery.
    • The ability to work in loud, wet, cold, hot, indoor, and outdoor environments frequently.
