THE BIG PICTURE
The Production Manager reports to the Global Head Brewer and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the brewery. They play an active role in the people management of the brewing team with daily and weekly tasks while also taking a hands-on approach to these positions. They will have a focus on supervising, training, and mentoring the production staff, while maintaining collaboration between team members on and off-site. The Production Manager will follow brewing procedures and recipes established for and approved by Modern Times Beer. The Production Manager will follow brewing procedures and recipes established for and approved by Modern Times Beer. THE EVERYDAY VIEW
- Lead, mentor, and manage all production personnel on-site to ensure effective and timely communication and accurate documentation of all daily activities, and to facilitate growth and employee engagement
- Collaborate with the management team to report and troubleshoot any issues within the facility
- Facilitate future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of current processes and continually seek opportunities to improve quality and efficiency from brewhouse to packaging
- Perform bi-annual compensation and performance reviews for all personnel and direct reports
- Schedule production team members to fit the needs of the facility for efficiency and a safe work environment and confirm hours through payroll software
- Maintain, update, and train staff on all SOPs in accordance with MT standards
- Create, maintain, and update various G-sheets related to the Anaheim facility such as Costing sheets, Beer Specs, etc. along with scheduling in Asana
- Update and maintain brewhouse and cellar scheduling and workflow via transfers, packaging, etc as well as yeast management for the brew schedule.
- Work with the production coordinator and global head brewer on raw material and packaging material supplies and substitutions.
- Consult with the Global head brewer in complex scheduling scenarios and effectively relay information to the team
- General knowledge of in-line canning machine operation and troubleshooting (ie. Wild Goose, Alpha, Twin Monkey, Cask, PSA)
- Take charge of maintenance tasks throughout the facility to the best of your ability and notify the Engineering Manager or Global head brewer of potentially hazardous work environments
- Ability to perform all functions of the production staff from packaging, cellar, lab, and brewhouse operations and to perform those tasks regularly.
- Provide ideas in a productive and positive manner to help reach targets over the long term (lower mash temp or rest time, longer WP rest, lower sparge addition, shorter or extended hop contact time, etc)
- Be a team player and able to interact with all levels within the organization
- Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
- Have a working knowledge of Orchestrated Beer and Asana and be able to process tasks through it when necessary.
- Other tasks may be assigned as needed
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
- Able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check
- Minimum 2 years of commercial production brewery experience required
- Forklift operator certification required
- Prior experience operating a forklift and pallet jack required
- Evening, weekend, holiday availability required
- Ability to work any shift in a 24/7 production environment required
- Previous people management experience preferred
- Strong work ethic and self-starting attitude
- Strong interpersonal skills and a love for meeting and interacting with people
- Thorough attention to detail and desire to take initiative
- Must adhere to the company’s policies and procedures
- Desire to work in a fast-paced, growing company
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to stand for prolonged periods
- Able to stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs
- Able to manipulate valves and clamps
- Able to read and follow written English instructions
- Able to regularly lift/carry 44-pound boxes
- Able to regularly lift/carry 55-pound bags above waist level
- Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds using appropriate techniques and tools
- Able to lift/move 165 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
- Able to proficiently stack and move barrels on barrel racks
- Able to comply with safe chemical handling procedures, including personal protective equipment such as gloves and goggles
- Able to both work and thrive in a high-stress environment that has a quiet to moderate noise level
- Able to read and follow written English instructions
- Able to safely navigate the tasting room and snack bar areas, including crowded spaces
- Able to work in a factory/production environment that may be loud, slick, humid, cold, and hot
- Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise and occasionally slippery floors
- Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards
