    Position Description:

    Cellar Operators are responsible for following established SOPs and best practices in order to produce and package high quality beer. As an integral part of the success of the Brewery, the Cellar Operator will also employ his/her depth of knowledge of beer science and packaging in order to play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing our overall product and customer experience. This Job includes cellaring, packaging, and racking duties.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    (Brewing)
    • Cellar work
      • Filtration/fining
      • Fermentation tracking
        • Monitor and record fermentations including routine analysis of in-process beer
      • Dry-hopping
    • Centrifuge operation
    • Monitor gravities, temperatures, and carbonation of beer
      • Carbonate beer and prepare it for packaging.

    (Packaging)
    • Daily Can line tasks
      • Run the Paktech can carrier applicator
        • Have a basic working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot equipment
      • Load can pallets into the depal
      • Run the can-line on the filler/seamer side
      • Pack case trays or boxes with cans or bottles
      • Palletize filled cans or boxes
      • Clean and maintain the canning line and packaging work area
      • Accurately record batch numbers for Warehouse
        • Wrap batches by numbers
    • Bottle line tasks
      • CIP run and troubleshoot bottling line
      • Maintain Quality Control including: Fill levels, D.O.s, Crown Tightness
      • Maintain and set up labeler

    (Racking)
    • Keg washer setup, operation and maintenance
    • Keg filling via machine and manually
    • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary

    (Quality Control)
    • Work with Lab Tech to get QA/QC checks done on all runs
      • DO and CO2 checks; Report all out of spec levels to Packaging Manager.
      • Can seam checks with videography.
      • Fill level checks.
    • Assist in maintaining consistent quality of packaged beer including: product code dating, beer approval tasting, and finished product examination and testing.
    • Make sure that our finished product (caseware, kegs, labels, etc) leaves the brewery looking professional to the consumer.
      • Directly responsible for maintaining quality standards and SOP in all areas of cellaring; Follow recipes and procedures as set by the Brewmaster, Operations Manager and/or Head Brewer
      • Follow proper procedures for quality assurance concerns

    (Safety and Sanitation)
    • OSHA Safety compliance and continual training
    • Observation and practice all Brewery Safety Procedures; including use of proper PPE
    • Keeping up with brewing industry trends and best practices
    • Maintain a sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment through Clean in Place (CIP) procedures and solid general housekeeping practices
    • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and infrastructure in collaboration with other brewers and maintenance staff
    • Keep brewery equipment organized in accordance to company standards
    • Cleaning, Cleaning, and Cleaning

    (Reporting and Communication)
    • Maintain healthy communication and work closely with all departments of Ecliptic Brewing to understand the history, style, and our culture
      • Work with production team on QA/QC and sensory to maintain quality and consistency of product
    • Maintain brewing, cellaring and other related documentation in an organized, complete and accurate manner; Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner
    • Discuss any and all brewery issues with operations manager

    (Conduct)

    • Aid in the professional development of new brewers



    Desired Skills and Experience
    • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Possess or desire to possess a knowledge of brewing and beer styles, as well as a desire to learn more; genuine enthusiasm for craft beer
    • Quality Control in a food/beverage production setting
    • Prefer forklift certified
    • Acquire Food Handlers card within 45 days of the start date
    • Organized with excellent time management skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
    • Ability to identify problems and review information to develop and evaluate options and make timely and sound decisions
    • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, mathematical and reasoning skills
    • Must have an understanding of safety standards
    • Must be a team player and have the ability to work with the management team to further the company goals
    • Strong work ethic and self-starting attitude
    • Ability to think outside the box and propose new ideas
    • Willingness to regularly work during evenings and weekends



    Job Requirements
    • Working in a brewery is a very physically demanding job. Must have the ability to lift 55 pounds regularly and 165 pounds occasionally, handle hot and cold liquids, shovel hot wet grain, and climb stairs repeatedly throughout a shift.
    • Able to stand for prolonged periods of time
    • Able to stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs
    • Continual lifting, dragging, carrying, and manipulating of hoses, parts, pumps, buckets, and reservoirs requiring standing, walking, crouching, and lifting regularly throughout the duration of shift
    • Able to work in indoor and outdoor environment with moderate noise, sometimes slippery floors
    • Must have the ability to work in a non-temperature controlled environment, handling of hazardous materials, and operation of complex and heavy machinery.
    • Floor surface may vary from hard concrete to carpet/rubber mats
    • Ability to tolerate a high-level work pace that is typical for a production brewery
    • The noise level in the work environment can be loud
    • Able to work 8-10 hours on your feet
