    Job Title: QA/QC Technician
    Reports To: QA/QC Manager
    Shift: Varies (flexible)
    Position Type: Full-Time, Entry Level

    • Paid time off accrual of 10 days per year.

    Position Summary: The QA/QC Technician will be responsible for helping with tasks related to brewery quality control.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Assist with day-to-day tasks related to quality.
    • Fermentation monitoring including daily gravity and pH checks, as well as yeast counts and viability tests
    • Analysis of dissolved oxygen and carbonation levels of packaged beer
    • Collection of samples for laboratory analysis, including aseptic samples
    • Finished product analytical testing
    • Microbiological testing, including sterile plating, filtration, PCR, and preparation of media
    • Organization and analysis of sensory panels
    • Raw materials analysis
    • Data entry and record keeping
    • Laboratory upkeep including cleaning, autoclaving, reagent preparation and equipment maintenance
    • Along with day-to-day duties, the QA/QC Technician will also help with special projects as needed, including those related to R&D, process development and improvement, food safety, and hazard analysis.
    • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, or as determined.
    Qualification Requirements:
    • Must be 21 years of age or older
    • BS/BA in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or other related field, or proven interest in science and willingness to learn
    • Strong organizational and verbal & written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently in a cooperative environment, with a proactive, self-starting attitude
    • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel
    • Ability to adhere to safety standards and protocols in both and manufacturing and laboratory environment

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience in a laboratory is strongly preferred, with special considerations for quality lab experience
    • Knowledge of the brewing process, brewing science, and fermentation science
    • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, and other food safety and quality assurance programs
    • Previous experience in a production brewery, food plant, or beverage plant
    • Familiarity with database and statistical software, particularly Microsoft Access and NWA Quality Analyst

    Materials/Machines/Equipment Used:
    • Lab equipment: densitometer, dissolved oxygen meter, autoclave, etc.
    • Computer automation systems
    • Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals
    • Pumps, hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment

    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to regularly lift/carry products weighing up to 55 pounds
    • Ability to work in an indoor or outdoor environment which may be loud, slippery, hot and humid, or cold
    • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, twist, turn, crouch, kneel, climb stairs
    • Operate in a safe manner, including wearing protective eye / ear wear and gloves
    • Crawl and/or climb
    • Use of production chemicals are also typical in this work environment
    • May be required to work and direct in confined spaces, and work with high pressure steam
