  • Peracetic acid calculation advice

    Hi,
I need some PAA calculation advice

I have been advised by my filter manufacturer to use 0.5% PAA to sanitize cartridges.
I also require specific % and/or ppm of PAA to sanitize bottles, caps, etc.
On a previous thread I have been advised to use between 50-75ppm for sanitizing caps and bottles.
Can any kind soul please help me understand how to calculate both ppm and % of 5% PAA required for these various tasks.

    Thank you
    Jo

Like I said, if you aren’t comfortable with dilution calculations, then use a calculator. I have previously suggested envirotech.com/calculators which already has many PAA varieties listed.

    The basic dilution calculation is Volume1 x Concentration1 = Volume2 x Concentration2

50-75ppm of PAA is not sufficient unless soaking for prolonged periods (3 hours+) based on the handful of studies I have read. Personally I would target a minimum of 180ppm.

Soaking crown caps in PAA is likely to just cause them to rust...most use them without any sort of sanitisation.
