Does anyone see a problem with using a gas powered forklift inside the brewery? Found a great deal on a CAT 5000lb lift capacity forklift and I just want to be sure that’s not a problem. Also, does 5000lb truck sound big enough for a 15bbl brewery.

If the engine is tuned and you have some ventilation, no problem. 5000# should be plenty unless you are getting big tanks in regularly.

We've done as much as 40 bbl tanks with a 5000# capacity fork lift. Once you get one, you won't be able to imagine how you got by without one.

Your local health inspector may have something to say about a gas vehicle in your space though and there may also be some ventilation/engineering concerns as well.

we had a 5000# gas fork truck for two years for our 15 bbl brewery, it was fine. when it died we replaced it with an electric and it was miles better.....no need to open the overhead doors during the winter 7 times a day. we certainly are happier with the electric, plus its whisper quiet

Thanks for the replies. I got another question. At what point is it a must to have a lift truck? 1000bbl yr, 2000bbl yr?

Your back will give out before you'll know the answer to that question...
