  • Threaded Spear advantage / disadvantage

We're currently looking at picking up some used kegs and have found that we can get Firestone kegs with threaded spears at a much lower price. Is there a disadvantage to the threaded vs traditional kegs?

    Thanks in advance.

Actually, although type D drop-in are standard in the US now, threaded is traditional and still used throughout the world. Spear types A, G, M, S, L, and U are threaded. I've used both threaded and drop-in, and prefer threads as they are simpler to remove. Special tools and strict adherence to procedure are required for any sort of spear removal. If the kegs are clean and sound and have the coupling you like, I think you would be happy with these. I don't know of any disadvantage.
