    As I said, it’s a loaded question.

    Depending on what exactly to are trying to make, yes cultivars, malting techniques, and kilning can be different.

    Or you may prefer to use brewers malt for your distilled beverages, depending on your wash composition and desired final product.

    So does this mean that the cultivars of barley used are different or the manner of malting or the temperature and length of time kilned differ?

    The primary differences are enzyme content, protein content, moisture level, and extract potential.
