  • Transferring purée from a 55gallon plastic drum to the fermenter

    I am guessing I could modify the two white filling tops to receive a co2 fitting on one side and and out tube on the other to the tank but am really wondering what kind of pressure the drum can handle as the fruit is about 9 brix and pretty thick.

    Fyi, We only have a standard brewhouse transfer pump, nothing that is powerful enough to move the purée.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Peristaltic or diaphragm pump would be the ticket.

          I used my cellar pump to move puree and it did just fine.

            I've never tried it but this hand operated drum pump https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail...E&gclsrc=aw.ds claims that it can handle fluids with a viscosity of up to 8,800 centipoises. And according to this chart, http://www.cstsales.com/viscosity.html that is about the viscosity of black strap molasses.
            At 75 bucks it might be worth a try...

                Lot of hand pumping.

                I use this pump for cleaning chemicals.

                        You can also use a standard cellar pump, prime it by letting beer/wort back flush into the drum for a bit and then start the pump. I have done this several times with great success.
