We are looking to implement a bar coding system in order to track our packaged goods and raw materials inventories. Is anyone familiar with or use any bar coding systems that can export information into an excel format from which we could import into our business software? We're very green in the bar coding world so any and all suggestions would be helpful.

Some do have an "inventory" mode, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Esky-Wireless-.../dp/B00JB6BO4K
But that seems like a lot more work to me, and riskier. If you're inventorying with a laptop or tablet at your side, you would place the cursor on the field in your management software for the product lookup, scan the code, and then enter the quantity on hand. The scanner in the link above is wireless, and also has a small transmitter like you find with a wireless mouse.
There are more complex scanners for use with specific inventory management programs that are more like a handheld computer. You can also use your phone for this type of thing; I haven't tried it though.

My day job is supply chain and ecommerce consulting. Inventory Mgmt. is critical as it can be as much as 40% of your capital. That said this is a pretty slick little system that gives you inventory mgmt. as well as reports.
Mind you it is small scale given it uses ACCESS as the db.
Hope this helps.
