  • Beer in barrel went from a sour to vinegar.

I discovered there were 2 barrels in the brewery that a past brewer put beer in over 2 years ago. At some point someone tasted it and said is was a good sour. This past week I opened the barrel and it very much turned in to vinegar. Tasted it and it was bad for sure not to mention what was floating on top of it. So my question is- are these barrels trashed since I'm sure the vinegar taste/smell is in the wood?

    Thanks Frank

I bet they make pretty nice flower pots... Would it be possible to re-char the barrels and kill the acetobacter? Not sure I'd trust it anyway after that.

    Sorry.

We have no way to re-char them. As for flower pots, I did turn 2 of them into the base of a SS table and the other into a "welcome to the brewery" display. SO I guess they will have another life. RIP
