Our lab is looking in to the possibility of switching from forced d-testing to VDK distillation to start quantifying diacetyl content. The ASBC Beer-25 broad-spectrum method seems like the best option that's within our price range ("Method B" in this paper: http://methods.asbcnet.org/methods/Beer-25.pdf )
Do you have any experience with this method? Any tips for what equipment to buy?
The reagent prices are doable, but I'm hesitant on cheaping-out on a spectrophotometer. There are some durable models going for about $650, or insanely sophisticated UV-Vis units going for $7,000+.
Here's the spec I was considering - https://mfimedical.com/products/unic...saAoQeEALw_wcB
