in NY this is what the law says... http://www2.potsdam.edu/alcohol/Stat...l#.VIXY-8ltTk8

"Thirty-seven (37) states and the District of Columbia permit adults age 18 or older to serve alcoholic beverages in on-premises establishments. Only three states require a server to be age 21 and one state permits persons age 17 to serve alcoholic beverages."

Here in NY it is 18 all other states are listed in the link :

Legally you are allowed by TTB to have people 18 and above working for you in the brewery producing beer. Many Breweries have a policy that they will not let anyone under 21 work in the brewery, but that is your choice. As for the tap room where you will be serving beer, that then becomes the State's area and will vary depending upon which state you are in and their laws.

    Cheers,
    Dave

If you have a tap room, you'd probably fall under the same set of regulations as a bar would... can't pour beer for sure, and I'd imagine that would also go backwards to anything involving a fermented state since there's a level of alcohol in the product.

This is, of course, all speculation on my part.

    Brewers/interns under 21

We're not open yet, (July hopefully) so keep in mind that this question is being asked by someone who has never worked in a brewery before.

People are contacting us about the potential of employment at our brewery. While we're planning to stick to friends/family for as long as possible, we know that can't last very long. We're at least reviewing the emails we get from people who are interested in working for us.

Here's my question: what's the legality of having someone under the age of 21 as a brewer and/or intern? We have someone who's 19 and studying brewing that's interested in working for us. It doesn't make sense for us now, but we're curious about whether it would ever be right.

On a side note, how stupid is it that a 19 year old can study brewing but not drink legally?
