      Craft Tap

We are currently in the middle of construction of our brew pub. We currently have a craft tap hooked up to our kegerator at the home office. We have done several tests with the system and find that the beer is relatively unaffected (slight oxidation) after 8 weeks if unopened. We have plans to install three craft taps at our growler bar at the brew pub.

        Poor Engineering

If this device works to your satisfaction, then all may be well.
We have noted the following matters:

Very poor mechanical design incorporating a lot of plastic fittings that are prone to leak.
Shipped out with a set of fittings to connect to beer lines that are John Guest style on the " in " side which leak 6 ways to Sunday and are totally unusable. We were forced to solve this with NON-OEM parts because Pegas was not responding to the problem and were apparently clueless.
The original inlet fittings as shown in the DOCs are barb style on the inlet and would be workable if the barb was 3/8, but they are 5/16 and as such will not work with 3/8 ID beer lines.
One additional defective part found on start up causing leaks and requiring replacement before the pair can be brought into service. Warped injection molded plastic " Hub."
        Very poor documentation.
The system is set up in a way that does not make it easy to clean unless the entire draft system is also being cleaned which is not practical to do " every " day.
This is another matter that is on the buyer to deal around.
The idea might be viable, but the engineering of this device is not well thought out.

Local brewery got one after seeing it at A conference. About a year later and still collecting dust as they can't get it to function properly.

            Simple answer= best answer

Perlick Perl flow control, you can generally find them for under 50 bucks.

If you're filling growlers non-stop they aren't your answer but for the average tap room they're awesome. Less waste, super affordable, no attaching nasty hoses and great results when just pouring pints.

Cheers Warren, I was wondering about the design and fittings and what not, I'm really worried about convincing my bosses to purchase a $3,000 centerpiece for the bar.

I think Parallel 49 is using them in their taproom. Not too far of a drive from you.

                      Tariq, thanks for writing back.
As it often happens, The Brewmaster and Engineering are often not asked to assess an idea but are given the charge to implement one that may not have been fully thought out or looked at in necessary detail.
While we deal with the real substance of things in and often cutting and zero nonsense way....
Many others are caught up in appearences.
I would avoid this one in particular.

                        Thanks again Warren,

I've decided to put this on the backburner for now, might check out future models and revisit this idea again but for now it's too risky.

Cheers everybody for the help !

The ad copy which states that filling growlers results in excess foam makes me think that is only a problem if line balancing, temperatures and serving pressures are not set up correctly. A cold water rinse would also help reduce foaming.

That device looks very steam punk and a PITA to maintain.
                          Regards,

I saw this again at CBC a couple of days ago and I have to admit, it looks pretty tempting. The biggest selling point is the CO2 counter-pressure of the growler. But I remembered seeing this thread on ProBrewer and I am slightly worried about the connection/real-world issues. I examined their floor fillers as closely as I could but didn't notice any of the issues with john-guest type fittings, they appeared to all be normal barb fittings.

The ones I saw at CBC were actually modified versions of the original product (I'm talking about the ones that had the 4 buttons and were mounted on top of the kegerators.) The sales person told me that they were customized.
