  • Fittings to switch between serving tank and keg

We are pouring half of our beers from 10-20 barrel serving tanks and half from kegs. When a serving tank goes down for cleaning, we want to be able to connect that draft line to a keg. Has anyone come up with a good way to do this?

I do this all the time, using five 7bbl serving tanks feeding a 12 tap tower.
Make a simple jumper out of a 1.5 triclamp (or whatever fits your system, to a short beer hose, to a keg connector. Then, just hook up a gas hose, and viola, kegged beer off of a brite tank tap connection.

Assuming that your BBTs are outfit with TC, your BBTs should be installed with TC/beer nut fittings. No special equipment, fittings, jumpers.... Just simple beer nuts. Switch between tanks and kegs by moving your hose/beer nut between them. Easy-peasy.

This is a great way to do things, and -shamefully- I didn't think of it, but I don' think it fits into how we operate. We have an outside company come in to clean our beer lines every other week, probably the only place in this part of the state that does it more than once a month - or more, and it's super easy for him to flip-flop the TC fittings instead of messing with beer nuts and replacing washers. And, the beer line cleaning service cleans the adaptors, no extra charge. Plus, even a server can connect the TC fitting if she needs to, for some reason, as they're all learning to make beer and are already used to the TC fittings.

So take off the Triclamp without unscrewing the beer nut! Even easier. The fitting is soft tubing hose barb, through a beer nut, to a TC. You're still using a TC fitting. Don't have to take the beer nut off. But if you want to, then you can take it off to adapt a keg coupler. You aren't losing anything. It's an elegant solution. This one from Glacier Tanks:
