    HEAD BREWER POSITION - BREWPUB


    We are looking for a qualified candidate to run the brewery at a busy coastal brewpub serving beautiful simple beer on a brand new state of the art 7 BBL system. We will handcraft cutting edge beers and world class examples of traditional styles. The Head Brewer will have the support of a regional craft brewer consultant in regards to safety training, quality testing, ingredient procurement, maintenance know how, engineering and recipe development. This will be our 11th restaurant, under construction now with opening slated for Spring 2019.

    About SoDel Concepts: Based in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, SoDel Concepts was named “Best Place to Work in Delaware” by DE Today and is a multifaceted, award-winning hospitality group with 10 coastal restaurants: Fish On and Matt’s Fish Camp in Lewes; The Clubhouse at Baywood in Millsboro; Bluecoast Seafood Grill + Raw Bar and Lupo Italian Kitchen in Rehoboth; Matt’s Fish Camp and Bluecoast Seafood Grill + Raw Bar in Bethany Beach; NorthEast Seafood Kitchen in Ocean View; and Catch 54 and Papa Grande’s Coastal Taqueria in Fenwick Island. Other divisions include Haley/Kammerer, a hospitality consulting firm, and Highwater Management, a hospitality management company, as well as SoDel Films, Matt’s Homemade Soda Co., a line of artisanal sodas, and SoDel Salts, a line of chef-inspired gourmet seasonings.

    PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

    • Minimum 2 years professional experience, ready to hit the floor running
    • Raw ingredient handling and inventory management
    • Knowledge of brewing science and yeast handling
    • Manage recipe development and integrity
    • Mechanical, trouble shooting and repairs aptitude
    • Strong organizational, record-keeping, sanitation and attention to detail skills
    • Ability to work independently under direct supervision of Director of Operations, Owner, and Brewery Consultant
    • Provide oversight of all brewery personnel and operations
    • Evaluate and monitor beer produced and raw materials involved in brewing
    • Meet budget and production requirements
    • Operate brew equipment to maintain the inventory of raw materials and maximize production of beer
    • Flexible availability, including some weekend days
    • Ability to interact with brewpub guests and the public
    • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written
    • Good computer and software skills, especially Excel
    • Ability to take direction, follow recipes and accept constructive criticism
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties efficiently
    • A passion for craft beer, with a dedication to the strong core values and beliefs within the craft beer segment of our industry
    • Ability to appreciate beer without personal abuse-related problems
    • Desire to learn and grow along with the company’s expansion
    • Strictly adheres to company safety policy and complies with osha standards for hazard communication, lock out tag out, confined space entry and forklift use
    • Understands and adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
    • All aspects of small, busy, brewpub brewery producing approximately 1,000 barrels per year: Brewing, sanitizing and diligent cleaning, filtering, cellaring, line cleaning, keg washing/filling, small scale canning and manual bottling
    • Maintenance of brewhouse, cellar and surroundings in clean and respectable condition
    • Following basic safety procedures, as dictated by common sense and company policies
    • Periodic new employee brewery orientations at times
    • Public tours, education and tastings
    • Driving to and from festivals, sometimes overnight required. Must have own reliable transportation.
    • Responsible for filing TTB and Delaware tax documents and maintain files related to documenting and organizing the data needed for them.
    • Some weekend work as needed. This position is responsible for daily gravity checks while in fermentation, maintaining a healthy yeast culture (propagation, pitch counting, and viability assessment).

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
    • Ability to lift 60 pounds and move 165 pounds safely
    • Ability to work in wet environment with humidity, steam and heat
    • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, climb stairs and ramps often
    • Manual dexterity
    • Endurance to work long shifts when needed
    • Ability to stand, stoop, bend and work overhead over the course of several hours
    • Ability to work in small, confined spaces
    • At least 21 years of age
    • Ability to work in a loud to moderate continuous noise in the work area.
    • Willingness to work with hazardous chemicals.

    This position is a full-time salaried position. Eligible for health insurance, employer-sponsored retirement plan, sick time, personal day, paid vacation, profit sharing, long-term employment and growth.
