  • PT100 problems

One of my PT 100's is giving me problems. In fact at the moment it's not working. I have open fermenters so I can check Temps manually as an emergency alternative. My manual calls for heat conducting paste to be applied between the contacts...can I get away without the paste or is that where the problem lies? When I opened the PT100, there was a large glob in the socket. Any experiences out there?

I am using PT100's but I have never used any paste on them. I just made sure they were dry (including the well, use a hair dryer if needed). I have only ever had problems with one which had a broken wire.

Our advice to any brewery regardless of the type of temperature probe, is always carry some spares of a known quality/standard. PT100 sensors SHOULD be ok out of the packet as far as calibration is concerned but always have a known standard thermometer so you can double check. It is so easy to be able to verify if the probe is faulty if you have another new one to plug in.

Turned out there was a shaky resistor in the control box!
