  • Where do I get painted beer bottles?

I am a brewer in Massachusetts and have looked for a company who does silk screening onto bottles ie Rolling Rock, Red Stripe, Corona. Does anyone know of a company in the northeast who does painted 12 oz bottles. If so please email me.

    Hi Todd,
The process is known as "applied ceramic coating". I know one company in the northwest that does a GREAT job, Tri-S printing, http://www.tri-s.biz/. Give them a shot. Luck to ya'

            Hey Todd,
            How goes it?
I assume Adam at Catamount is doin your 22s.... Can't he get 12s for you guys too? I would guess that if we could get enough people together, he may start goin with 12s too??

BTW, had some Pioneer bombers at the house over the weekend... lovely stuff. Got them at the Spirit Haus.

I have no idea. Last time I dealt with them was about three years ago. They sent us six bottles with our design on them but in the end, we went with paper labels. The numbers just didn't pan out.

On a related note, should a brewer get to see "proofs" of the finished bottle(in hand) before the entire run is printed-no matter the size of the run?

                        Hi BMOOR,
When we were gonna go the applied ceramic route, we did get six bottles with our label screened onto them.

                          Absolutely

                          BMOOR

I would always suggest getting proofs of any packaging.

In one case we requested a new run of packaging for a second batch of beer using the same color and design specs as a previous run and with only one word on the package changed from the previous run. The packaging we received had the correct word change, but the color was off.

Even then it doesn't guarantee it's perfect, just that the supplier is giving you exactly what you requested. In another case, we requested proofs, signed off on them, and only after we received the shipment did we realize we goofed something on the packaging. The supplier gave us exactly what we asked for, flaws and all.

Always get proofs no matter what the application. Shirts, bottles, glasswares, promo items. The time you do not will be the time it bites you in the ass. I think in most cases you actually have to "waive" proofs if you don't want them by signing something. That right there tells you how important it really is. Take the extra step, it is always worth it.

...and when the proofs come back,

check for flaking and chipping. Throw a few in a cooler of ice water for a while and see if the label abandons the bottle and sticks to your hand instead. Not such an attractive quality.
