I was wondering what people used in their spraybottles to surface "sanitize" hose connections, zwickles, etc. The two I have seen most are ethanol 95% and iodophore. I included a couple of other sanitizers which I woldn't use for various reasons but some people might.

alcohol
For what it's worth, the 95% ethanol option brings to mind the fact (as I remember it) that a more dilute alcohol solution, be it isopropyl or ethanol, is supposed to be a faster kill. Something to do with the higher water % allowing it to enter the cell faster I think. As a result I think that a 70-80% alcohol may be more effective. Just another case of more is not necessarily better. Anyone else able to corroborate?Steve Bradt

flamer...
I use the ethanol and flame when I'm taking samples for plating.
A lot of the time I use ozonated water, and I'm surprised more people don't. You can't put it in a spray bottle, though...gotta come from the ozone machine. I played with the idea of running hose to each vessel, and having a coil hose and gun to spray with, but I've never gotten around to it.
I find the 70% doesn't flame as well, but I use it around the rims of carboys when I'm doing wine, and if I have to rest the lip of something on a vessel (like when I'm filling the brink)
Does anybody mist the air around the filling area when you are dealing with yeast? I had one guy do this...felt like a waste of material, but I never had any problems with his transfers...
