  • In the market for new gloves

    What is everyone using?

I'm looking for something that obviously is water resistant and has a decent ability to handle heat.

    Any suggestions? Suppliers?

    Thanks,
    Cheers,

Thanks David, you're always very helpful.

Any reason why they are electrical gloves?

My brother gave me my first pair twenty years ago. He worked for a propane company and the gloves were required for his delivery drivers to prevent cold gas burn. There is no insulation inside to mildew, the rubber is thick enough to allow holding a diverter link full of boiling wort with out burning your hand and they are available in several lengths.

I have seen a few different approaches to gloves in the brewery in addition to what has been mentioned.

Previously I worked in a production environment where we used cheaper, thinner gloves such as the Ansell Natural Blue 88-356:
17 mil, Liquid & Mechanical Resistant, Natural Rubber Latex, Fishscale, Pinked, An ideal glove for safety and dexterity in the food processing industry
These worked great around chemicals unless you reused them too many times and developed a tear and were fairly heat tolerant. These gloves offer decent dexterity but do not offer much arm protection and are fairly disposable (wasteful). We also kept thicker, insulated gloves by the kettle for extreme temperatures.

An alternative is a thicker, longer glove such as the Ansell Sol-Vex 37-185:
22 mil, Liquid & Mechanical Resistant, Nitrile, Sandpatch, Straight, Versatile chemical protection that performs across a diverse range of applications
These offer greater coverage, temperature protection and durability but limit dexterity more. Apparently the Sol-Vex come in shorter and thinner versions which may be more similar to the first gloves but in Nitrile rather than Latex...

              This is a worthy thread!

I have found what I believe to be the best glove on the planet...after a lot of trial and error.

              Ansell Sol-Vex Nitrile Glove - 37-665

If you have ever washed cornies, you will remember ripping out the right hand fingers from the bloody snap rings. With these gloves I end up throwing them in the bin cause they start to smell on the inside before they actually fail.

Good heat resistance, perfect length and fit (on me) and stays tacky (things don't slip) when using caustics and they have the best tear resistance of anything I have worn.

              You will not look back.

              Cheers,
              Jeff
