  • Cleaning old stainless tanks for use

I have access to two 300 gallon stainless tanks that I want to convert to a mash tun and kettle. They were used to store different chemicals for polyester production. I will remove all fitting and unbolt the top to clean it. Is it possible to get stainless completly clean? If so how? Can I hire it to be done?

    Thanks,
    John

    A few suggestions:

    Hot caustic
    Steam
    Green pad

Definitely replace any non-stainless stuff, eg. seals, gaskets, etc. and pay particular attention to corners & crevices.

I'm assuming the chemicals were free-running liquids and not likely to have hardened or otherwise set?

    Hope that helps!

After you clean throughly, boil it, boil it , boil it! If the chemicals were toxic, you might think about taking a 4th boil sample and have it tested for peace of mind.
