  • the replacement age of beer transfer hoses

Is there a general rule of thumb for how many years to use a beer transfer hose?

  • #2
No, not really. Much depends on the quality of the hose, materials of construction, frequency of use, how hot your CIP regimen is, working pressures & water hammer, abuse, end connection style, and other factors. I've seen them last 10 years with care. Just like everything else you depend on to make a great product, frequent inspection is in order. Common failure modes include delamination of the sheath from the liner, reinforcement failure, gradual relaxation of the material under the bands--which loosens the ferrules, small chips or bubbles in the liner, flattening of areas from either stepping on the hose or from high suction loads like positive displacement pumps. With a really good QC program, you'll have plates from hoses that show consistent low counts. Otherwise, if you do your due diligence with respect to inspections, you should be fine. No need to throw out good equipment.
