  • Fruit flies force their young to drink alcohol -- for their own good

    Interesting research-

“The fruit fly larvae raise their blood alcohol levels, so that the wasps living in their blood will suffer,” Schlenke says. “When you think of an immune system, you usually think of blood cells and immune proteins, but behavior can also be a big part of an organism’s immune defense.”

      Forget that

No way I will let them, never mind force them. What a waste of good beer.

Interesting to remember how people were 'forced' to provide beer to their young during the middle ages etc as it was 'clean'. The brewing process kills off much of the bacteria that would have been found in their water. Of course they did not know about bacteria etc back then but I assume they made the link between 'dirty' water and illness. Brewing it into beer solved that. Imagine that!
