Your Maheen in the quarter mile.

Hey I just wanted to hear how fast some of you have run your Maheen and with how many employees.

We have a 6 head Maheen, we have run it at over 80 CPH, but the beer had to be as cold as possible. Unfortunately the we is only two of us, it can get very hectic and running it that fast, it turns our Maheen into a bottle masher every couple hours at that speed.

We can run our 1995 4-head at about 50-55 cases an hour with three people - two dedicated bottling line people and a brewer floating by and stacking the cases every four or five minutes. It's possible with two people but it's nice to have a third person chipping in.

We run a six head Meheen, with two people, at around 60 cases an hour with 37F beer.

          Meheen usage rates

We run our 4 head 12 oz Meheen at about 50 cases an hour with beer about 34 degrees in the winter and 39 degrees in the summer at 2.5 volumes CO2. It only requires 2 people to keep up with the demands and we have a fairly short conveyor feeding onto our labeler. We are looking at running 2 12 oz meheens at the same time and only adding one extra person to keep up. We are planning on a speed of around 100 cases an hour at that point. I think it depends on how fast you are willing to work to get the job done. We have no troubles with keeping up on our Meheen. Sometimes the person is waiting on the offload side for bottles to come down.

            Update.

At 32 we can get a little over 70 cph. We just replaced our fill tubes and poly hoses. It is running really sweet now. Two of us operate it with a brewer dropping by with the fork lift to move the full pallets.

              Meheen/Labeler Layout?

              I love this Meheen thread!
What kind of layouts are being used for you Meheen and self-adhesive labeler? Label first? Bottle first? Transistion between the two? Any issues with labeling wet bottles (label supplier?)? Right now we're running with labeling first at around 30 cph. We're able to do this with one person running (literally) around or two walking around. But I'm always looking for the streamline!!

              Thanks

While you are at it, do you have issues with fob-over causing the bottles to become sticky, and later mouldy? Do you wash/spray prior to packing? Do you wait until dry before you pack, or air blow to dry?

                  Do you really Maheen it?

We do not have much problem with sticky bottles. Our Maheen has a rinser right after the bottlles exit the crowner.

I have a new question. Do any of you have any problems with bottles sticking up in the crowner when it raises. This causes the next bottle being pushed in to snap the bottle stuck in the crowner off at the neck. Is there some type of lube you use in the crowner or do you guys clean the under side of the crowner with something special?

We use a 6 head Merlin Maheen that exits on to about a 6 foot conveyor into a World Tandem labeler. We use a milk based glue, pretty messy stuff and it can get ugly depending on the temp. But it is a kick ars labeler. It is running as slow as it possibly can. LOL

We're using a 1994 four-head and have found that the usual reason for bottles sticking in the capper is that the off-ramp has become sticky. This causes the bottles to be packed more tightly together so that the bottles can't easily drop down from the capper. In every instance cleaning off the off-ramp and lubing it with lots of silicone spray has cured the problem. Hope this works for you.

                      Cheers!

This is the only company I know of that makes parts for the World labelers.

In-Line Packaging provides breweries, distilleries, chemical, and food prep companies with in-line packaging and preparation equipment.

We just got a couple parts for ours recently. We actually have 3 extra machines in the back that we use for parts.

                            Iodophor

Was wondering if anyone who sanitizes a six head Meheen with iodophor is having problems. The problem we have run into is after sanitizing if the bar that connects to the pinch valve is left on the tubing seals. If we remove the bar after about a month the threads in the piston rod are shot from removing it so often. Just wanted to know what everyone uses for sanitation, thanks.

What we have been doing with our 4-head 1995 machine is cleaning it and leaving it dry. An hour before we begin using the machine, we run chlorine dioxide through it, about five gallons, and leave it pressurized until just before we begin using it. We haven't had any problems with this procedure.

                                Mehhen

Ditto what Linus said, we run hot Oxine through the system with a pump then leave it hooked up untill we bottle. we then pitch the first 4 rows under the premis that they have sanitizer in them.
