  • Electric Boiler for 10bbl?

Is anyone running an electric boiler for a 10bbl system?

We are considering electric steam as an option for a few reasons.
-Cost of purchase and shipping (significantly lower)
-We won't need to run new 3in gas service into our building.
-No exhaust plumbing. (w/gas, we would need to run exhaust from first floor through the second floor to the roof. Can't vent through the wall because property line)

Aside from higher operating costs, what are the downsides to electric steam? Electric boiler manufacturers really tout their efficiency, and from my research it seems the operating cost might not be massively different from gas steam.

    Anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks.

This interests me as well. It's a ways down the road in my situation as we're just about to send off my TTB paperwork for my 2bbl brewery, but we're located in a part of town that has massively discounted electric, so i always figured we'd go this route, but it'd be nice to hear from actual practitioners in the magic art of electric steam heat.

    Cheers.

I am using a 60kw boiler on a 5 bbl system and love it. It does a great job and is pretty quick about heating through out the entire process. I dont know the costs to operate it compaired to gas though.
